O2 sensor

I have a 99 crown vic. and have changed 2 O2 sensors. Then I located what seems to be a third. It is on the drivers side above the catalytic converter. I can't get to the elec. plug it is at about 10 o'clock over the bell housing / trans. I was thinking about cutting the wires and splicing the new one in. Then I thought maybe it isn't an O2 sensor. This one has a black sleeve over the wires where the other two have a light blue sleeve. Is what I am looking at a third O2 sensor or something else? I thought there would be one on the right header as well but there isn't. If anyone knows how to get to the plug that would be great or if it is not an O2 sensor but something else it would be good to know. I tried to reach through the wheel well but my forearm it to big to get past the brake lines. Any advise or info would be really appreciated if anyone here knows.

Thanks,
Dan

I tried to search for this info. before I posted this thread

Re: O2 sensor

there should be 4 on most vics. - the plug is HARD to get to but DO NOT splice the wires - they are very sensitive and the splices can mess up the readings.

Re: O2 sensor

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I may just pay someone to replace the other two. I wish I had a lift in my garage it would make life easier. I guess there must be a trick or a special tool that would make replacing these easier but I know know it. Sometimes it seems that there is only one way to get to things on cars these days and if you don't know it then you end up paying someone who does. Thanks again.

Re: O2 sensor

While they are hard to get to it is not impossible. Buy an 02 socket and put it on jack stands you can either get from the bottom or top. I would loosen it when hot and let it cool before unplugging it.
