The joys of removing the turbo...
Hey all,
I found someone who wants to buy my turbo and exhaust manifold, so all weekend, I've been wrenching on it trying to get the damn thing out of there... its such a pain in the ass :P I thought I would take off the intake manifold to take the turbo out from the top of the motor (intake manifold is above exhaust manifold)... Get halfway through the steps to remove the intake manifold and it says "remove the turbo" Turns out i'm supposed to take the turbo out from underneath... Guess i should have read all the steps before starting ![]() Anyways, I follow the vauge steps in the Haynes manual, remove the two oil lines, remove the intake crap from the front of the turbo... Then I have to remove the downpipe... its rusted to the exhaust pipe... wont move... Struggle with the bolts in the most hard to reach places and finally get em all off today before i have to go to work... then there is shit in the way so the exhaust wont come all the way off, get that outta the way, and the turbo gets caught up on the steering arm shit... WTF is with those japanese engineers? I look at the engine bay of my dads 79 jeep... you can take just about anything off without having to remove anything else... look at my Z, and you have to take most of the motor apart to access anything ![]() Anyways, I'm just ranting here, typing away with my sore ass busted fingers :P I love Nissan, but you would think they would make it a bit easier to remove stuff... I can only imagine how much harder the 300zxtts would be to work on, their engine bay is 10 times more cluttered :P -Grendel |

It's almost as bad as trying to work on a French Car.
The apocryphal story is that many years ago, French Engineers hated the mainly ex-pat Algerian and Moroccan labor working in their car plants and came up with fiendishly awkward tasks to complete assembly of French cars to make life difficult. Some of these tasks involved doing up bolts blind behind bulkheads etc. The ironic thing was the fruits of the contrived process ended up being mainly driven by the local French anyway who would suffer the consequences of the difficult assembly and repair processes... |

apocryphal: adj 1 of doubtful authenticity... 2 invented, mythical (an apocryphal story) 3 of or belonging the Apocrypha
Apocrypha... 2 writings or reports not considered genuine... (Oxford Concise English Dictionary) It's probably urban legend but having tried to work on a French Car a few times there could be a grain of truth in the bizarre way some of the stuff is put together eg try doing a quick U-turn on a narrow street in a right hand drive 306 GTI-6 to understand this... |

That's why I've posted before, I'm never buying another Nissan again! To much shit crammed into a small space, different size ends on the same hose, LOL, screwed up adjustment mechanisms on old type fan belts. The oil filter sits right above the hot lead to the starter, and when you finally get the filter out, if you're not aware, you pull out the idiot light wire connector cause it's right nest to the filter where you can't see it!

Also, on top of all that, the Nissan dealer near me can't trouble shoot worth a damn, but they do know how to wash a car really good.

Yea, it seems every car has an engine compartment that is one size too small for the engine
![]() Well... except old school american cars and all that... -Grendel |

My 1976 nissan 280z had the opposite.
It's engine bay was huge. Much larger than the engine. You could get to everything so easily.
