Look out GT500

MadMaxima shared this with me earlier. Saleen might just do a project with Chevy....that's right, Chevy. On top of that we might be looking at a 600+hp Camaro in a few years. Take a look:

Re: Look out GT500

People deciding between a GT500 and a possible Saleen Camaro would more than likely have enough money to get which one they want. Not always, but I would assume most of the time.

thats not the point, these cars represent a very small portion of sales.

Re: Look out GT500

I can not speak for MadMaxima but I at least would think that he meant (and this is what I thought as well) that Ford needs to build something to compete with it, not for sales, but just to keep up with Chevy. It's not always about marketing but more of a social standing between the two.

Re: Look out GT500

that sounds great. yes, i do think ford will have to 'step their game up' in the tuning division if saleen is going with chevy as well. this is 'bragging rights' to which company is better to people nowadays.

i dont want to say anything that i dont know of, but

whats the difference between a 6.2L chevy big block and the LS7 for the vette? is this going to change chevy's production of the vette, if the camero is pushing almost the same power for like 20g less?

Re: Look out GT500

Yea SL3KGT pretty much has the idea of what I meant.

Ford prolly will be fine, but I'm not talking or worried about sales, I mean these cars are limited production vehicles anyway, with only a couple thousand made(??) so its not like their company is relying on them to make them huge profits. But as far as status as a car maker, GM is really stepping it up lately, (Z06, new Camaro, hell even the new Saturns, Sky, the Redline division, etc.)

The fact a Saleen, whos has always been associated with Ford, is now joining up with GM for these projects says something in itself.

im pretty sure the 6.2l is still a small block. the ls7 also has 50 more hp. its not going to change anything about the vette though, but i wouldnt be surprised if they increase the power of that too. if you look at the C5 vettes they had the same power as the camaros then too. the difference is in everything else about the car. handling and whatnot.

Re: Look out GT500

All the LSx motors are small blocks.

I have a slowass 1999 that GT500's should watch out for.

Re: Look out GT500

thing is 50 hp is easily attained by v8s by adding i/h/e. its pretty much pointless then of buying the vette, unless your planning of road racing. most people i know that buy vettes are to go fast in the straight line...

i was wondering about his new sig. 1 problem. it says all motor. then 13 psi. then 50shot

and dynos at 57hp or so. haha

Re: Look out GT500

As good as this camaro sounds, I don't think its going to be good competition for the mustang. I am pretty sure it will be faster than the GT, but it will also be considerably more expensive. Under 30000 for a V8 camaro....I think not, they were barely under 30 when they stopped making them. When a bigger badder camaro is released it will only be more expensive. I fully expect in the ballpark of 35 as a base for the z28. Nice car but I think mustangs and camaros will live the same roles that they have been for the past 40 years.

that depends on how highly tuned the v8 already is, to how easily it gets more power. my guess is that it wont be as easy as you think to get 50 more hp out of the 6.2l engine. probably wont be to hard though. corvettes also go faster in a straight line too, they have a better suspension and weigh less.

i havent heard that rumor but i can tell you that ford has been doing better recently. they have actually been making money the last few years, instead of being the red.
