Performance Upgrade

Just curious as to if anyone knows of any bolt-on performance upgrades which would significantly increase the horsepower of the Olds 4-tec engine.

You really need to go to a V6 to get performance.
But You might look into a pcm chip.
Sometimes they help a little.
Good luck

Re: Performance Upgrade

This engine is actaully capable of producing some power. Having 4 valves per cylinder definately made this a peppy 4, but the added power really stresses the head gasket. You'd need to know what gasket is on your motor before trying to beef it up, or it probably wouldn't last long.
You could try a performance chip to get a little more fuel into those cylinders.. but you will have to upgrade your exhaust right from the block back, as well as the air intake.
By allowing air to enter the cylinder and exit faster, you'll increase volumetric efficiency, and be able to burn a little extra fuel while maintaining a good air/fuel ratio. You might concider larger injectors, upgraded fuel rail, performance pump, performance wires/plugs, ignition.
There are almost countless variables to concider, making this one of the best hobbies in the world! Lets not forget those kids building sickening amounts of power in 4 bangers.. it can be done if you piss money.
