Question 1997 Escort wagon error code P0715

This has been a good little wagon, but I have had an error code P0715, something about a turbine speed sensor..it runs good but has a hard shift from 2nd to 3rd..

I went to Auto zone, they looked up the code for me but the guy at the counter had no idea what it was or if they carry the part, we erased the code , but it was back within 5 miles..

Any idea what the part is, where its located and if its something I can change myself with basic tools..

Like I said I "like" the car, I dont "love" it, so if Im looking at an expensive tranny repair Ill have to let her go to that great junkyard in the sky..

thanks!!

It's on the rear of the tranny, not far from the motor starter. One screw holds it in place. I just recently replaced one on my D's '97. If I can find the old one, or the box, I will post the part number... it was a little difficult for the Ford parts guy to locate.

I changed it hoping to fix a speedometer error .... no impact!

Re: 1997 Escort wagon error code P0715

Well, I hope I haven't mislead you. The part I described is the VSS. It reads the output shaft speed. Actually takes the place of the old gear driven speedo cable device.

The turbine sensor (TSS) is more on top, on front, of tranny. I'm not sure how it is held in place... and don't have a '97 right now to look at. If the harness was made with the "correct" insulator colors they will be R and W/BL. There is a wiring shield covering involved also ... R/BL connects it. You may want to go by a Ford parts counter just to look at part. The "root" number is 7F040. Then you can check to make sure there is no wiring concern.

Good Luck!

I've had to chance to look at what I think is the turbine sensor. Its best to remove the battery and battery bracket to see it. Right on top, and toward the left wheel.
