Help Wife is yelling at me!!
Hey everyone, new here and came for help please. My wifes car that she adores is a 2000 Grand Prix. For some reason the heater isn't working and I can't figure it out at all. I have looked at the fuses, no fuse for the heater that is listed in the book. I have drove the car and looked over what wasn't happening. I can turn the control knob and every once in a while get a shot of warm air that fades to cold after a few minutes.
Is there a damper or something that should let the warm air in or is it different. What should I look for? Help if you can, like everyone else funds are tight and can't afford to have someone look at it unless it is a last resort. Needing help Tatakai |

Re: Help Wife is yelling at me!!
Fuses would only run the blower motor. If blower always works then problem probably isn't electrical. There should be 2 water hoses coming out of the firewall, on of them may have a valve in it that may be sticking. You can remove the valve so hot water always goes through the heater core. This can be a drag in the summer but at least might get you through the winter.

Re: Help Wife is yelling at me!!
Welcome to AF.
It would help to post your engine size.

Re: Help Wife is yelling at me!!
Forgot to mention that sorry the engine is the 3.1L have had no problems other than this with the car. Just trying to get out of the dog house with her over this. Will check on the hoses later on today, its 2:21am now and have a ton of things to get done before 8am. Looks like a sleepless night again for me.
Thanks Tatakai |

Re: Help Wife is yelling at me!!
I thought so. The 3100/3400 engines are prone to heater problems.
For now I agree you should check the heater hoses in/out at the firewall to the heater core from the water pump. Both hoses should be hot to the touch after sufficient warm up time. The HVAC system uses temperature control actuators which are controlled by the temperature control on the climate control unit but other issues can cause your problem and it is easier to start troubleshooting in those areas first.

Re: Help Wife is yelling at me!!
Got the heater fixed and it was something that was very simple. The heater core and radiator were corroded up and needed to be flushed out. Got that done and new anti-freeze and the heater will run you out of the car. Oh Well guess I put to much trust in the guys that chanfe the oil and check the fluids in the car. Getting a free oil change out of it after I complained that they should have noticed it.
Thanks everyone Tatakai |
