Re: 2001 Grand caravan Sport cluster problem
Type "instrument cluster caravan" in the search window below "Welcome FSREDZONE" at upper right. As you'll see it's a common problem. Lots of info to fix it there. Chrysler is oblivious to anything that will pull money out of the CEOs pocket. So we live with it.

Re: 2001 Grand caravan Sport cluster problem
Here's a link to a discussion about instrument cluster problems and "the solder fix". You will need a manual for the removal of the dash top. The whole procedure is about a 2 hour job, possibly less if you've taken the dash apart before.

Re: 2001 Grand caravan Sport cluster problem
I've heard performing the cluster self test sometimes clears it. Something about simultaniously pressing the odometer trip and reset buttons.

I own a 99 Caravan se and have had a similiar problem. After investigating the instrument cover, I located my problem behind my fan and temperature control cluster. One of the connections had obviously overheated and caused the side of the connector block to melt which caused the connection to not be made. This eventually caused the instrument cluster to start acting up. I would loose the speedometer, gas gauge, engine temp indication, etc. I went to the automotive store and picked up a single connector. I then used a utilty knife to carefully cut away the plastic to remove the bad connection from the block connector. I cut the bad wire and installed the new single connector on it and then slipped the connector over the pin on the back of the cluster.
Not sure what caused the plastic to melt in the first place, but it's been good till now. Hope this helps. |

Re: 2001 Grand caravan Sport cluster problem
I unassembled the cluster and no luck I belive I will need to purchase a new one. The other problem Im encountering is the fan turns on by itself and blows hot air. in order to turn of the fan I need to turn off the vehicle.

Re: 2001 Grand caravan Sport cluster problem
Read up on the Body Control Module or BCM. It is a common topic on many threads concerning instruments. Good chance that is where your instrument problem lies. New BCMs are $300+. You can get rebuilt or salvaged BCMs much cheaper.
When did your blower problem start? When the ignition switch is in the "on" position the blower motor relay is energised and closes it's contact allowing a path for power to the blower motor. The motor is just waiting for the ground supplied by the blower fan speed switch on the heater/ac control panel to turn on. You either have an intermittent short to ground at the switch or on the wire from the blower motor to the switch.
