'95 Blazer Fuel Pump
I changed my 'in-tank' fuel pump two years ago, after it was simply dead to the world one day. I've also since replaced the fuel filter, injector lines, fuel regulator, etc., and have had no fuel problems until recently.
I noticed that I no longer can hear the pump run when I turn on the key, and sometimes the starter cranks for quite a while before the engine fires up. The weird thing is that the car does fire up and run fine, even though I still can't hear the pump run. Is my two year old fuel pump acting up? This has been going on for about a month now, and I'm nervous that it's going to strand me again. Thanks for the help. |

Re: '95 Blazer Fuel Pump
Check the fuel pump pressure at the shrader valve. It needs to be above 61 psi to start like it should.

Re: '95 Blazer Fuel Pump
The fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds when you turn the key on. Then the key has to be off for 10 sec before the pump will run again. You need to be at the fuel tank when the key is turned on to hear the pump run.
Check your battery voltage. A weak battery will cause hard starting as you described and will also cause a no start, as the fuel pump needs max voltage to get the fuel pressure up to and above 61 psi, which is needed for the engine to start. Put a jumper wire on the fuel pump test wire and see if your pump runs, if so check the fuel pump pressure at the schrader valve. |
