It depends on what you want to do with your car.
If you want to spend a little extra money and have a car that is pretty quick off the bat. Get the Type-R.
If your planning on modding, get the GSR. The GSR will be just as fast after a few bolt on mods as the Type-R is. Plus you get a sunroof and more comfortable seats.
If you think its cool that you have a Type-R then get the type-r... cuz you may not get the GSR and put type-r badges on it.

People who say the Type-R is faster than the GSR always are smoking something. The 5+ stock HP in the Type-R is nothing once you start modifying your car. I have a 2001 GSR, and I have never lost to a Type-R. So, go for what you want to do.. not what other people are telling you to do.
Check out both cars... and take into account whether you want the sunroof or not.
Everything thats on the type-r can be put on the integra (body stuff) and that 5+ HP can me made up easily.
Plus if you ever plan on FI, the GSR is a better motor for turbo/supercharging.

The other thing the Type-R has that is "better" is the suspension. If you get the GSR, spend $20 on a rear lower sway bar... and you almost have a type-r suspension.

I had that question too when I was buying my first integra... and I just drove both cars, checked them out... and I know now I made the right decision cuz my car hauls balls...
Plus, I dont know what I'd do without a sunroof :finger:

GET THE TYPE R, I HAVE A 98 GSR myself and I definitely would have bought a type R if I had more money to spend on it. I want the whole TYPE R interior, I think the CARBON FIBER interior on the TYPE Rs are BUTTAZ! DOnt forget the seats and the power as well. TYPE R is excellent and GSR is right below, I've raced TYPE Rs in my GSR and have beaten most of them unless they are turbocharged/supercharged, but I do have some secret setup TYPE Rs wont see it coming on the ROAD! HOLLA FRONT!
