M Coupe vs. 350z

Which would be a better all around car, a 98-00 S52 M Coupe or a 03-04 350z? Both are close in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, altho the Z has 47 more hp. I plan to drive which ever i chose as a primary car, and eventually turbo it. I cant decide on which one to buy..

BMW M Coupe
3.2L I6
240hp@6000
236ft-lbs.@38000
3131lbs curb weight
0-60: 5.1 1/4:13.7

Nissan 350z
3.5L V6
287hp@6200
274ft-lbs.@4800
3197lbs curb weight
0-60:5.3 1/4: 13.77

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

Honestly, I know I should say the M, but I just think the Z is better. Plus its newer than the M, and better looking.

i would say the Z cause it's more for your money

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

The brain says Z but the heart says M. Yes the Z is more powerful and will be easier to maintain, but the M Coupe has so much more character. The odd yet cool styling, the two toned interior its just amazing. Its handling and acceleration are on par with the Z, but everything else about it is a step up. Easily the funkiest car we have seen in a long while.

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

Oh man, I've gotta go with the bread van from Hell (M coupe). As said, it just has so much more character- and 350 Zs are a dime a dozen nowadays. (Not that that is such a bad thing; It speaks for the Z's value per dollar and endearing overall qualities.) I'd like to look at the passing times for these cars, though, as I have driven an M coupe along with several Zs, and the coupe "felt" faster, especially in the mid-range. Then again, maybe it was just me giving in to the sweetness that is the M coupe's inline 6, and the (relatively) abundant torque throughout the rev range. Of course, the Z's motor is also a fine piece, but I think it feels a little truck-like in comparison.

If you could somehow manage to step up to the 315 hp version of the coupe, I wouldn't have to think a second about it.

Then again- if you are really serious about adding a turbo later on, there is probably more out there for the Z.

Still, though, I'm an M coupe guy.

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

I have just always loved the coupe and roadster. I can't vote against them even though if I was going to buy a car it would be the Z.

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

Unfortunately the s54 M (315hp) is out of my price range otherwise there wouldn't be a question between the two. I would like to go FI some time in the future. I don't think I would want anything more than 400whp or have to any major modification to the motor.

Re: M Coupe vs. 350z

i would go with the Z. cheaper to maintain and probably much cheaper/easier to turbo.
