chasssi Spring preload

hello everyone.
I have seen some race car that has a rod preloading their spring, and of course that rod limits the wheel travel in rebound. Can anyone explain me of does it affect the weight transfer? and how can I calculate the new weight transfer?.
Thanks.
Best wishes.
Charly

Re: chasssi Spring preload

Well, a car that has a 4-link rear suspension has that "rod" that you turn to set the preload. The idea is to stop cars from bringing one of the front tires higher then the other. So if you had a car bringing the left front tire, then you'd preload the right rear. It doesn't help though, or atleast it never helped us. I think you want as little preload as possible. Too much will casue the car to weave on top end.

You can ask 5 different people what this should be set at, and you'll get 5 different answers though.

The best thing to do IMO is to adjust one of the shocks instead of messing with the preload of the suspsension.

And I think when you add in preload, it does transfer more weight to the right rear. I have no idea how you would calculate that though. I just know I've been told by adding preloading, you're "adding weight" to the left front tire, and when you take out preload, you're "taking away weight" from the left front tire.
