Transmision fluid leak...

I noticed this leak of transmission fluid. I put some of the lucas transmission sealer stuff in and it is still leaking. It comes down and drips fromt he bolts on the bottom of the fram right behind the front tire on the passanger side. I have enclose a few pics too. Any ideas on whats causing it to leak? Front seal? Its not a huge massive leak but it does leak for sure and i want to get it fixed ASAP. The truck is a 89 chevy scottsdale k2500. It has a 350 and a 3 speed auto, of which model im not sure. if you know what tranny i have pleas let me know too.

Re: Transmision fluid leak...

If it's an '89 Scottsdale is truly a 3-speed auto, it's likely a THM400. That's a solid transmission, and you should never have trouble if you service it regularly. Your arrows indicate a leak closer to the rear of the transmission than the front. Clean it all off and monitor for new leakage.

If it were mine, I'd drain the trans ASAP to get rid of that leak-stop additive. Remember the part about never having trouble with the trans? You can forget about that if you keep that sealer additive in there. It's only going to cause trouble.

Re: Transmision fluid leak...

from the pictures it looks like a turbo 400 a very tough transmission...there are several different places it could be leaking the most common is the pan gasket ...then there is the cooler lines (passenger side)...there is also the front seal it would be leaking behind the torque convertor transmission has to come out to fix..but i doubt this is the problem because your exhaust pipe doesnt have any fluid on it...there is also the tail housing seal
