1995 safari AWD vibration

Hi there!

I have a 95 AWD and have a slight vibration at 45-70mph. Seems to be a cycling growl sound. It doesn't happen all the time though, just when warmed up??!!?? If I hit a dip in the road at these speeds it vibrates quite strong in the front end as well. I had a front driveshaft replaced and it was a used one which proved to be defective as well. Now I am worried that this driveshaft problem will happen again as the vibration was present before the other shafts were replaced.

Also, I am just wondering how the AWD system works? Is it full-time All-wheel or just when slippage occurs?

THANKS A MILLION FOR THE HELP!!!!
Eric S.

Re: 1995 safari AWD vibration

.

I'm under the impression that its AWD system only "fully" engages when there's tire slippage or when the front wheels are dramatically turned. Last spring, we had to get our tranny rebuilt. The guy installed the tranny and said its AWD light (on the dash) would come on when he turned more then a 70 degree corner. For example, doing a normal 90 degree turn at a stop sigh. Luckily, he found the problem. One of the wires going into the tranny wasn't "seated" properly. Thus, when its AWD wanted to come on (when doing tight corners), its computer system detected a problem. With the cause of this problem, one would assume the van's AWD system only "fully engages" when its computer feels its needed. For example, ground slippage and sharp corners.

Hope this helps...
