Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
I went and bought a set of Monroe Sensatrac shocks seeing they were on sale here.
I got them home and gave them a test to see how they react. One is much softer than the other by a large margin. If a completely compress both of them and allow them to extended, the softer one take about 54 second to full extend out whereas the stiffer one take about 24 seconds. My question is, which is the good one and which one should I take back. I tried these out at the store a week ago and the guy brought out two shocks and I was amazing when the two he brought out had the exact same problem, one was stiff, one was too soft. Any thoughts?

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
Took them back, went with KYN GR-2's and saved about $50.
After getting two separate sets of sensa-tracs from two different stores at two different times and both of them have one of the two bad, I am not taking the risk. The guy noticed it too and was a little ticked seeing I guess they are getting some quality control problems from Monroe. GR-2's are just as good, much cheaper and I have yet to hear anyone having a problem with them. Everyone loves them. The Monroes on the other hand have a lot of complaints.

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
I put some sensa tracks on about 3 months ago and have no complaints. Comfortable on-road ride. Works great offroad too. Guess I just lucked out

If you didn't test them you wouldn't have ever really known. I bought some KYB GR-2 shocks instead seeing everyone has said nothing but good things about the quality and the product life. Got them really cheap too, just hope I didn't get screwed.

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
Ok, well, they came in and are PERFECT.
I got two KYB GR-2's for the price of one sensatrac and they are essentially the same shock. I was thinking on getting some monotube shocks but from what I hear, they can be a little too stiff on the front, so I have the KYB monotube gas-a -just's on the back and the GR-2's on the fron. I essentially have no shocks in the front right now. They are completely screwed. Can't wait until the temp rises enough so I can get them on.

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
Absolutely disturbingly AWESOME!
![]() The truck is like new and these KYB shocks are absolutely the best shock I have ever installed on a vehicle. Better ride and control. It is like a new truck. I highly recommend the combo of the Gas-a-justs on the back and the the GR-2's on the front for comfort. So happy.

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
well i will say one thing - the monroe sensatrac shocks are terrible . i had always used monroe gas magnums but a clever sales pitch swayed me to try the sensatracs - ( dont throw eggs for using this word) - i installed them first on my f150 - and right away i was sorry i did - then i bought my bros jimmy and the ride was somehow familiar - yep he had sensatracs -...
also before you install any shocks you should compress and expand them at least 3 times each and install them at the fullest length you can - just a tip i picked up years ago at a buddies spring shop.i cant remember the exact reason but i think it sort of helped to ensure they would be even lengths when installed - puging sort of . |

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
For sure, I was playing with them for a week before I installed them.
Also, after a couple weeks of use they wear in and get even better. You lose the harshness and they smooth out nicely.

Re: Bought new Shocks.....both act differently.
I though I read here that when changing the shock you should use th same ones that are already in your suspension package. Though someone said it would f' up handling....can't remember.

You can put on whatever shock you want. No way I would run back to GM and get ass raped for my OEM shocks.
