07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

Here are two close competitors. When comparing these cars remember that they are economy cars. The slight power advantage the rabbit has does not have as much bearing on the opinion of someone who is shopping for a car like this. I was up in the air between the two at one point but the new civic eventually won me over. Lets here the general consensus.

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

I think i would have taken the rabbit. because: German engineering, more standard features, and it looks better IMHO.

What standard features does it have that aren't on the civic?

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

I think that for the completely practical person, the Civic is a better car. Much better fuel economy and probably much more reliable. But if you care at all about having a slightly fun car the Rabbit is much better. Its much more involving then the Civic, has a little more power and a fair amount more torque. The standard options list for the Rabbit is also a bit better then the Civic's. More speakers, standard CD player, standard AC, and a few other things make the Wabbit a cooler car IMO. So if I were looking for an only car, I would take the VW, if I already had another fun weekend car and was looking for a daily driver, I would take the Honda.

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

Hopefully VW quality control has improved. That in mind, I'd take the Civic.
My '85 GTI was so bad, I don't think I'll ever get another VW. German engineering? When the heater hose failed, I had to buy a VW part. One end was about 1" dia., the other 5/8". No hose form the local parts supply did that. The N. american headlights were crap. You couldn't drive the speed limit at night unless you were on streets with lighting. I could go on, but I'll just say I was SO PLEASED to replace it with a LADA.

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

I could never own a car called a "Rabbit".

As for German engineering, is it built in Germany or Brazil?

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

I'm pretty sure I read that all of the Rabbits sold in America were going to be built in Germany, with the Jettas being built elsewhere. Although I could be wrong.

SCC tested both and found the Civic to be faster around an auto-x course.

If that's the case then the Rabbit could actually be a good little car.

Better than the crap that comes out of Mexico....

You aren't talking about the SI civic, you are talking about a regular civic right?

Re: 07 Civic Vs 07 Rabbit

I'm not looking at buying a VW, but I think I read the Mexican ones had better quality control than the German ones.
