99 Ford Taurus SE 24V

Hi Guys,
got a question. Went to start my taurus the other day turned the key and heard several clicking sounds. Battery must have died(battery is less than two years old) so I jumped the battery. Car fired right up disconnected the jumper cables. The car ran fine for about 5 minutes and stalled out. Any ideas whats going on? I think it may be my alternator. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Regards,
Joe

Some of the chain auto parts store will test your charging system for free.

Is the "battery" light on in the instrument cluster? Typically a faulty charging system will cause this light to illuminate. A bad battery may not. If you have a couple of bad cells in the battery, they may cause more of a drain on the system than the alternator can keep up with.

As KimMG suggested, many stores will check the charging system. Have them check the system voltage without the car running, then start the car and checking the charging system voltage. It should be around 13.8 volts. Also have them do a load test on the battery if they are equiped to do so.
