Air Cylinders in my 89 CRX

I was thinking about doing Air Cylinders on my CRX after getting my B16A. The problem is, i know nothing about these. Wat i want to know is where i can i find complete kits that'll come with everything? how hard is it to install? wat's a good company to get them from? Any information u have will be helpful, because i really just need to get an idea on how much this'll cost me. Also, how much will this weigh me down? Are these gonna be bad for racing? Air cylinders are really fun to have. Really, really fun. I have gotten SOOOOOOOOOO much attention after I got my air suspension installed. It seems like everyone and their mother (no joke!) looks at my car when its parked. Its great. However, if your trying to go all race with your vehicle, don't do it. Stick with springs and shocks or coilovers, etc. Air suspensions are more fragile than your normal suspension setup. I don't think it would really matter too much when your racing the 1/4 mile as compared to racing on the track (where you have to turn and really rely on your stiff stuff). Go to www.hackshack.com and they sell complete kits. Look around the site and they will give you a listing of where they're shops are located across the US and which one is closest to you. They strictly just do air suspensions and have been specialists for doing air rides for a very long time. They're parts come with warranties as well as the install on them. They are also a wholesaler so they sell to all shops around the world so don't be surprised if other shops use EAI parts. EAI is just they're other name they use for selling wholesale parts. Call them up or if you need more help or want to buy kits from me, I can give you prices on different setups available. Also, are you going to have a system in it? or want your trunk space? All this comes into play because you need a place to stick your air tanks. A normal kit FBSS (Front, Back, Side, Side) kit runs around 1500-1700 and install runs around 800. They give you an instruction booklet for installation but my car was in they're shop for a little over 4 days so don't think this is a quick and easy install. Also, trust me when I say this. Shops will tell you that they're parts are the best and that EAI sucks. The same thing happened when I went to Hack Shack. The Hack Shack employees bagged on everyone elses stuff. Everyone bags on other people's stuff. However, the reason why I am telling you about Hack Shack is because they are the most recognized air suspension specialists in the United States. Euro Lowrider almost always chooses to go to Hack Shack to do editorials and step-by-step installs on how to install air suspensions. They have a nation-wide chain of shops and they always have a booth at Hot Import Nights, SEMA, etc. at all the big shows. This business rely's on strictly air suspensions to stay in business, so they HAVE to do a GOOD JOB.

Could you compare the ride quality to stock? stiff? soft? Gotta take corners really slow?

Yes you do have to take corners fairly slower. It depends on what kinda turns though you know what I mean. If your turning a corner around an intersection, you have to turn much slower because its a sharper turn when you compare a turn when your entering or exiting an onramp or offramp. I usually drive around the same speed when I get on the freeway but take it much slower around street corners. About stuff, soft, etc. - It really depends on how high you pop up your car or how low you want to drive it. The lower it is, the more comfortable. But too low results in too stiff...same as riding high...pop your car all the way up and its SUPER STIFF...normal right height is comparable to a car with shocks and springs or coils. When I have friends who want to ride in it, they tell me that it feels like its a regular car when I drive at my ride height which is about 1/4 inch above tires. All of them have told me that it rides like regular cars.

So it took so long to get back to u all, but i figured noone was gonna reply. Thanx for all the input, im still thinkin on whether or no to do it. I knew that track racing would suc with them but thats ok cuz thats not wat im gonna do, im gonna strictly do 1/4 mile and straight road street racing. So if its not gonna screw me over for that or slow me down that much i might get it.

Wat did u mean by that? I wasn't planning on ruining my car, do u just not like air cylinders or do u have a legit problem with them that i should know. I would reply appreciate any more info u all have, thanx again.

I forgot to mention, I do have a system in my car, its the 3 10 in MTX Thunder6000's all in one box, heres a pic
ill get a picture of it in my car as sunday after it comes home finally (getting the kit, spoiler, paint job, shavings, the works....sooo exciting). Hopefully u can tell me if ill be able to squeeze all the stuff i need in there. THanx again.

PS Do things go wrong often with air cylinder kits? Is there a lot of maintenance u have to do? I'm pretty clueless in case u can't tell, just trying to learn as much as possible.

from all stuff ur doing (kit, spoiler, shaving, etc.) it looks like your paying a lot of attention to the show aspect of ur car. and it'll be pretty hard to fit a tank into a hatchback if you have a big box like that in ur trunk. you might have to custom fabricate your system to fit in an air tank.

Cool thanx for the advice. I'll probably research it a lot more before i make a decision. Wat i really am hoping to find is the 1/4 times for a car b4 and after air cylinders, that would give me a really good idea as to whether or not i want them. As far as a custom set-up for my system, that could be possible since my bro is a car stereo installer at Circuit city, he could probably do that for me.
