2002 Grand Caravan Sport *need info*

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a 2002 grand caravan sport and I've gotten conflicting info about them. I've been told that the dodge and chrysler vehicles have transmission problems and I dont know if that's true or not. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any problems that are common to this brand of vehicle? Thanks in advance.

As said not much transmission problems. Just keep it serviced good.
But any brand of car do have transmission problems.
The people that service there transmission have a lot less problems than the people that do not.

Thanks for the responses!! I'm glad to hear they have addressed and fixed the trans problems, that's something I know very little about so I was hesitant to buy anything that had the reputation of having bad ones. I will of course keep whatever vehicle I have serviced and up to date on everything, I have found out it saves in the long run to maintenance my vehicle before it needs major help. Other than that though, the dodge grand caravans are a good vehicle to buy as far as you know?

There is a lot of them on the road.
No more problems than anything else and maybe less.
I have had 3 in the last 10 years.
First one was a low mileage 89. Transmission rear end bearings went out under warranty is the only major problem I have had.
Good luck with Yours.

You are welcome and good luck with it.
One thing is always get a V6 engine.
The 4 cyliner is underpowered for the van.
3.0 L is good and 3.3L V6 is better and the 3.8 V6 is real good it will spin the wheels.
And watch the price and do not let them over charge you.
Try to buy it around loan value.
The dodge van resale is low. And over 100K is real low.
I have saw some 01-02 vans wholesale for 5-6K
Your Banker/finance can give you the value of it.

Re: 2002 Grand Caravan Sport *need info*

The info on the van said that it has a 3.3 engine, it has 109,300 miles on it although it's mostly highway because it's apparently a company van for a packaging place. The price listed on it is 6900.00 and if I like it I'm planning on offering $6000.00, that seemed like a good deal to me. I dont like buying something with over 100,000 miles on it, but it is the newest vehicle I've been able to find in my price range that also fit my qualifications.

Always talk them down.
If it is in good shape 6K is about right.
If they want to sell it they should take 6K.
Good Luck

Since the van was owned by a business there's a good chance they have maintenance records available. Might want to ask.

Follow me here,I hate Chrysler.I am a GM fan till the day I stop breathing. I have had many scaryvans and have not had any non inflicted problems. Not true, forgot about the clock spring. The 3.0 has bad heads, don't get one.The do go for a long time but YOU WILL HAVE VALVE GUIDE ISSUES.The 3.3 or 3.8,non issue.I have bought many a scaryvan for my wife, low mile and high mile.Everyday, her van starts and goes. The only issues I have run into are,Clocksprings,Dry wire harness conections( should be spryed with lube at oil change) Trans service,Crank sensors and last but not least DO NOT DRIVE WITH BAD PLUG WIRES!!!!If you do long enough, you will need a computer.I have found out the hard way,you would not think a tech would take care of his own car s would you?
