Question Flex Gasket Removal 96 Accord

I'm Replacing The Catalytic Convertor On My 96 Honda Accord Ex, I Can't Say Its Been A Blast Especially Removing The 02 Sensor Plug Which Honda Placed In A Nice Tight Location, But I Want To Replace The Flex Gasket On The Mid Pipe. What Is The Best Way To Remove This Form The Mid Pipe So I Can Replace It? And While I'm At It, How Do I Remove The 02 Sensor From The Old Cat? Do Need Any Special Tools.
Thanks For Your Help.

Re: Flex Gasket Removal 96 Accord

Autozone rents oxygen sensor tool for free. I just got it yesterday.

What do you mean by the oxygen sensor tight location? On my son's 95 Accord LX it is right there when you open a hood. Right on the heat shield. I rented oxygen sensor tool just in case. I think it is possible to get it out with a regular wrench.

I think Haynes manual recomeds that the exhaust pipe suppose to be at a room temperature.

I Think Honda Changed Things Between The 95 And 96. On My Car The O2 Sensor Cable Is Attatched To The Heat Sheild In Two
Places And Then Sweeps Up Above The Frame And Connects With Another Cable On The Firewall. On Your 95, Is There An O2 Sensor On Your Cat? Thanks For Taking The Time To Respond

Re: Flex Gasket Removal 96 Accord

I have not had chance to look at my 99 LX but I know that newer vehicles do have two oxygen sensors. I thought they would be two separate units.
They suppose to send information to the ECU about exhaust gases before they enter catalytic converter and after.
Do you have two separate circuits for them?

Thumbs up Re: Flex Gasket Removal 96 Accord

this flex gasket is made of soft metal and wire mesh. it is somewhat cone chaped. after talking to a couple of friends i removed the gasket by cutting into it with a small dremel cut off or you could probably score it using a small hand held hack saw. i then took a scredriver and started working it apart. pliers helped. i then had to scrape off some of the solder left on the pipe before installing a new one.
