2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

Im not really sure about this project.

I sold my RX 300(was getting kinda boring) and bought myself a 1998 Hilux and sold the engine and bought myself a 2JZ-GTE and was wondering if that was right engine choice(i bought coz of its power). I wanna transfer it to my Hilux and was getting second thoughts coz of suspension problems and just mounting the engine. Is this possible?
Also if i do transfer the engine i wanna have a bit more power(about 350-400hp) and suspension modifications.
Any advice on wat i should do and use as parts?

Thanks

Is it possible? Yes. Is it a custom fab job? Yes. You will need to make motor and trans mounts. You will have to have a custom drive shaft made. You will have to splice the harness yourself. This is not a "bolt in" swap. 350-400 HP can be made with a boost controller and piggy back ECU with the stock turbos.

Re: 2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

Did this 2 weeks ago to my 1990 4R:

Before:

After:

2JZ-GE (Lexus GS300) minus auto and tractioncontrol, added manifold and single turbo, a CT26 (new) and intercooler from a '92 7M-GTE.
It replaced my 7M-GE but that was an easy swap. Actually nothing fits with the 2JZ.
You need a custom bellhouse, custom tranny mount, radiator, cooling, sump, air piping, wiring loom, power steering pump etc etc. Lots of work, but it sure payd off for me.
Lots of power, even without fuel and ECU mods which will be done soon.

Re: 2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

hey guyz...
im having issues wit my engine...i did my transplant sum days ago after sorting all parts needed(engine harness, custom drive shaft, suspension)and remapped my ecu(MOTEC, just thought i had to have it)and it drove reasonably well...
2 days ago..got it dynoed(was hoping for 350-400hp and bout 340-380 ft/lb torque)and i only got 245hp!!!and 235ft/lb torque...i was pissed, coz dis project cost me around $17,000...the issue was that around 4000rpm+ the engine just stopped boosting, and dump valves wide open...im currently running on 13psi boost and the engine is a 1997 2JZ-GTE...
any ideas or advices will be appreciated...

cheers

Hard to say without putting my hands on it. There are a lot of factors at work when tuning a new motor.

Re: 2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

Thanks. I'm pleased myself too.

Does the engine stop revving at 4000 max?
The dump valves open and you loose power, or you lose power first and than the dump valves open?

Did you check the pressure setting for the dump valves?

I just bought the OEM 2JZ and 2JZ-GTE repair manual, so I can help out with schematics and adjustments etc.
There is also a inspection procedure to find malfunctions.

Re: 2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

i got to say i love the conversion, i put the smaller 1g-gte in my 4x4, and i too was dissapointed when i had it put on the dino, but i found that most of the power loss was due to the fact that i was still running the 4.8:1 diff ratio and 33x12.5in tyres, so just for shits and giggles i changed to a 3.8:1 diff ratio and smaller tyres simillar to the size that would be found on a supra the the engine came out of to see what the difference would be and got a 38% power increase,

Re: 2JZ-GTE in 1998 Hilux

hey twinturbo
I did change my diff and put a more recommended which my mechanic insisted to do ,i sorted out all my electronics and engine issues, apparently the auto gearbox which i sourced(1994 Supra(non turbo) 4 speed auto)couldn't handle most power(it wouldnt go above 4000rpm).
I got everything sorted and tuned right and i was really happy got 385bhp and 420ft/lb!!!!!0-60mph in 7.9 seconds, 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds and even took it up to 125mph(removed 4x4 tyres and rims and lowered the my car by 3 inches and put more road adapted tyres and rims)
Funny thing was even raced a Celica GT-Four and I WON!!!

this car is DA BOMB...im neva gonna sell it!!!

i'll put some pics once a get a camera(only phone cam and quality is really bad)
