Re: 104 racing fuel

It would be pointless and a serious waste of money.

Higher octane doesn't = more power

The recipe for power is the lowest octane possible without knock (pre-detonation) A stock vr4 can run on 91 octane. Witha boost controller at 15psi, 93 or 94 octane is nice. But 104 octane is completely overkill and worthless, if anything it will cause you to lose power. On top of that, most high octane fuels like htat are leaded which will decrease the lifetime of stuff like your cats and 02 sensors.

So simple answer, yes you can run 104 octane in your vr4, heck you can run 87 octane in your vr4. It's your car, you can run whatever you want in it...but it sure isn't a good idea if you like your car. Stock, stick with 91 octane.

Now when you upgrade your turbos and are running serious boost...then you start shopping around for higher octane fuels.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

What is the compression ratio on your 71 SS? But yes, otherwise Igovert is right, it would be a waste of money.

Re: 104 racing fuel

Its a power protector, not a power adder, It just stops things like Predetonation from happening when you are running high boost. It would be beneficial IMO to run higher grade pump gas when running 14-15psi but anything above that, then you'll start to look at race and you don't want to run any more than 14psi without supporting mods anyway.......................

Re: 104 racing fuel

Sunocos in PA have up to 94, everywhere else in PA and NY have up to 93. Some states get screwed and only have up to 91.

Re: 104 racing fuel

In general any of that octane booster stuff is crap. While it says it boosts your octane 3 or 4 points or whatever, if you read the fine print, every 'point' that they advertise, is in fact only 1/10th of an octane point. So you are spending $5-$10 on a bottle that is gonna raise your 91 octane gas to 91.4 octane. Not really worth it.
