Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
You need to figure out where the noise is coming from. It could be a self tensioner or idler pulley about to fail, or you may have a water pump with a bad bearing. Without being able to physically listen to the sound, it will be very hard some someone to tell you with any confidence what is causing the noise. Your best bet is probably to find a shop you trust (ask some co-workers or friends for recommendations) and let them diagnose the noise for you.
I see from your other posts that you recently replaced the spark plugs. Did this noise occur immediately after you replaced the spark plugs? -Rod |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Based on your description, I would suspect water pump. However, you may save yourself money in the long run by having a professional in your area diagnose it in person.

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Did you tell you need the compressor replacement, as in air conditioner compressor? If so, does this noise only occur when the A/C or defrost is on? How regular is the noise, once every 15 seconds, once every engine revolution, multiple times per second?
With 195k on the engine, I wouldn't say you didn't get anything. Is that 195kilometers or 195k miles? If you were on the original water pump, then consider yourself lucky and now you have a healthy new pump, even if it didn't fix the noise you are looking for. -Rod |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Another thing to try would be to remove the accessory drive belt, start the car, and let it run for a minute or two to see if the noise is gone. If so, the noise is related to one of the driven accessories. If the noise is still there, it's something other than compressor, power steering pump, alternator, idler pulley, or self tensioner. It could still be something with the timing system or internal to the engine.

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
yes they taled me need A/C COMPRESSOR replacment, but the noise is occur
all the time, not only AC or defrost is on. the car is 195k miles I bought from auction 2 weeks ago, I dont have any maintenace record, I have no clue they replace the original water pump or not, I think there was nothing wrong the old water pump. even I requested new originale water pump but they put old or rebuild water pump to see like new they painted silver paint. |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Well, if the noise is present even when the A/C compressor is not engaged, the noise is probably not a bad compressor. Possibly a bad compressor pulley, but that can usually be replaced independently of the compressor (I'm not sure about on your 2000 Taurus though).
I think the next logical step will be to remove the belt, start the engine, and let it run for a very short time, just long enough to determine if the noise is still present or gone. -Rod |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
I'd suggest you spin any of the pulleys that you can by hand (make sure the key is off and not even in the ignition switch). The power steering pump may be difficult to turn by hand, but the rest of the pulleys should spin freely and smoothly. On the A/C compressor, only the pulley ring will spin freely by hand, the center of the pulley engages to drive the compressor, so you probably won't be able to turn it by hand.
If any of the pulleys feel or sound rough, then that item would be suspect. -Rod |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Hi Rod as you suggest me I spin all pulleys by my hand the AC/COMPRESSOR pulley sound is different from others pulleys, it is not smooth and there is sound so what is your advise?

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Many times the compressor clutch assembly can be replaced independent from the compressor. It may turn out that all you need is the clutch and bearing assembly, but the technician that changed your water pump may also have other reasons for telling you that you need the entire compressor. Without seeing the car in person, or knowing how the A/C compressor clutch is set up on your 2000, I cannot say for sure what all your car needs. Does the A/C work fine? Does the noise change when the A/C is turned on? Are there any signs of oil leaking from the compressor or the pulley area of the compressor?
If you don't believe that you are getting treated fairly by this technician, take the car for a second opinion. -Rod |

Re: please help on 2000 Taurus
Today I open the hood and I turned on the engine, I turned on the AC and MAX, I look at the compressor pulley, every 50 second or less intervals engaged the clutch and rotate, also inside the car AC work's fine.but noise is the same with AC on or off, no oil leakage or bad smile
