max vs celica gt-s

Hey i have a 98 maxima se. Yestersday me and some guy from school decided to run our cars. He has an 02 celica gts, and it was a stick. Mine is cmpletely stock and automatic. anyways we raced and my launch was terrible, so i was behind, and by the time i hit third my car was gaining on him, but it was too late, the race was over. We raced a second time, and the same damn thing happened to me! i got distracted and i lost. I hope to race him again.

Oh and a race is set on monday, for me against a sentra se-r spec v, a six pd. does anyone know what i can expect the result to be?

I'm thinking you will have a little bit easier time with the SE-R than the GTS. The GTS has more horsepower and less weight than the SE-R. The SE-R has more torque down low though, so you might want to work on those launches a little bit. Are you powerbraking when you are launching?

My brother's 95 SE 5spd raped a GTS 6 spd. He has'nt raced a V-spec Sentra yet, but i'm sure it will just as ugly.

i'm not sure about that......
i've beat a maxima se 5spd with at least exhaust b4, it was a close race, i think it'll be a good race, but i think the spec v will take it

PS practice your launch dude! the maxima is a slug until it hits 3500 rpm then it shredz. but if your not carefull the other car will take advantage and get those extra feet it needs(and believe me they will) so practice practice practice......

with my exprience.....any car with over 120 hp with a stick WILL burn a maxima auto in launches.....cuz they simply just drop the clutch and way they go....i've tried power braking but doesnt work 4 me....and yes i turned the TCS off.....when u guys power brake how high does the RPM get to?.....cuz i cant get mine over 2000RPM.....maybe im being too easy on the car....... ....i wish my max is a FR and 6 spd manuel...

my friend has 2k1 celica that is stock auto. with my old maxima, (stock) i burned him. i was auto too. from the line, he stayed with me til like 50, then i pulled like mad. from a roll i would always get 1-2cars right away. try working on your launches, and your break torquing is fine, auto maxima's wont break torque past around 2300

I've ridden in and raced against my friend in his '00 gt-s auto, and it is extremely slow off the line. I was riding with him when he raced a jeep grand cherokee from a stop one time and he got beat, by a sport utility! with no mods. lol If had been a 30 mph roll on, it might have turned out a little different. The gt-s's thrive on higher rpms. You don't even feel any kind of power band until around 4000 rpm. (with the auto anyways) the 6 spd. is still a mid 15 second car if I remeber correctly, so you ought to be able to hang with that gt-s 6spd.

ok I raced the gts again, and this time my launches were perfect, so i took him and beat him by a car lenght. The se-r race was a good one too. my launch was delayed so he took a minor lead. (we both had two extra people in our cars) but i gained on him real quick and passed him with eased. I ended up beating him by half a car lenght. After our first run, he went to drop off a person. I guess the weight did really matter because, he had me the whole way by a car lenght and beat me. It was fun nonetheless. Oh both of these cars had a aem cai, which they failed to tell me about, while my maxima is completely stock and automagic. They both had the 6sp tranny. i guess my two extra cylinders make the diff.

Wink MUST SUCK TO BE BOBO80

dude how slow is your car?? you say from expieriance that any car w/stick and more than 120 horses can beat an automatic max..dude im sorry to hear that but NOPE!
STICK OR NO STICK IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE DRIVER!

ps dont go putting chris raddo in a pinto and expect him to do 9.45 on a 1/4 mile! but it does depend on the driver....its all about the skillz!

Yeah, I would say that Maximas from the early 90s were pretty slow, but the newer ones are pretty fast. I have raced 2002 Maxima and a GTS Celica and I smoked both so I can't tell you which would win but I am quite impressed with both.

Last year right after I got my SS, I saw a GTS with the Action Package for exactly the same amount that I paid for my SS, $26K. Which do you think was the better value/choice???

The SS was three months old with 3K miles on it. I don't think I'd have as much fun in the Celica as I do in the SS. I've never driven a Celica though...
