Loosing oil?
I was wondering if anyone has experienced a drastic loss in oil in the 3.5 max? The only thing that i can imagine that happend was the switch over from regular oil to full synthetic oil. The only problem is i do not find a drop on the floor of my garage. i also do not find a drop anywhere arround the motor. I do not see any black or white smoke comming from the exhaust. I lost about 2.5 litres in 3,000 miles. Has anyone ever herd of this? Or have any thoughts? Thanks.
Oh ya also i have a broken/loose strut mount. How hard is this to do? Any someone with aveage to below average skill at cars be able to replace them? It is the front driver side. |

First , i have seen if oil changes are not done regularly that oil passages in the valve cover get clogged and cause conditions like you are explaining. Loosing oil. I would replace the valve covers , being the oil passage is not serviceable. That should fix your oil burning problem. As far as your strut mount, have it done , not safe if you don't have the right tools and know what your doing. GL...

Re: Loosing oil?
That amount of oil can burn without seein smoke from your mirrors, it was the norm in 80's engines until japanese engines took the market.
New: That consumption is still normal on GM's and even on some uk. toyota engines. Depends on who makes the engine - nowadays one cannot be sure of the factory where the engine comes from.Used: Possibly clogged PCV. Oil change etc points also to mildly worn/broken piston rings, leaking valve stem seals. New or used, 3.0L maximas dont comsume any oil... Still after PCV swap (5$?) I wouldnt do anything else in this case but add as necessary. Covers no. |
