I need a second car and am looking at a 99 GT. I'd like a GTP but I've always heard the superchargers cause a lot of problems? What has been your experience and would you recommend a 99 GT/GTP?

Re: 99 GT or GTP?
Go with the GTP!!! More performance due to the supercharged engine. You won't have problems with lower intake gaskets like the GT and I think you will find it is an overall better car. The supercharger shouldn't give you any issues unless the previous owner has damaged it in some way. I have a GTP with 142K and the supercharger works just fine. One suggestion if you get the GTP, change the supercharger oil when you get it and annually thereafter. It will save you a lot of problems later.

Re: 99 GT or GTP?
I have a 99 GT (looks just like mike561's GTP) and don't regret buying it. The kid in me wants the GTP's performance, and my next one will be a GTP, but you won't regret the GT either. I get 21mpg around town, and better than 30mpg on the highway.

Re: 99 GT or GTP?
Thanks for your responses! Any idea how much it might cost to fix if a problem does show up with the supercharger? The only reason I'm so hesitant about a GTP is the number of supercharger problems my mechanics see.

Re: 99 GT or GTP?
I would be more worried about the UIM/LIM problems with SE/GTs (L36 SII 3800). One reason for high failure on the Eaton M90 Gen3 supercharger is lack of proper maintenance. Not changing out the SC oil in a timely manner. The old couplers were flaky and once replaced with the improved one that illiminates alot of problems.
If all else fails you can get a complete brand new Eaton M90 for around $600. Used/rebuilt go for way less. I still have my original supercharger. I have replaced the snout bearings, seal and coupler. Total cost was under $150 including machine shop for the snout bearings. A UIM/LIM job will probably cost more. Which model you get is your decision and you will have to live with it.
