Exclamation 1994 gmc sierra question

So i was reading up on a few performance mods online and i came apon a few parts from "JET". I was told Jet is a mediocure company and thus i am not sertant that i actually want to get anything from them. The first thing i was looking at is some type of performance chip.... I already have a Cai,Headers,Dual Flowmasters, No Cat, Spacer. .. and i figured maybe a chip of some sort would help? Also i looked at a Thermostat and i was told this makes the engine run cooler which makes the air/fuel mixture much richer.. But from what i heard if u go any colder then 180' that it can actually ruin your engine... Is this tru?

- If anyone on this form has any information on what i stated above please give me all that you know so i dont go down the road of bs and purchase items that wont give me any more power then i already have...

Thanks

*P.S*
IF anyone has any other ideas that could give me a good ammount of power for the buck please let me know im here to learn

Re: 1994 gmc sierra question

Let's address the tstat question first. Yes putting in a lower temp tstat "can" ruin an engine especially if the stock chip is used. Why can this ruin an engine? Well the ECM sees the cooler engine so it gives more fuel. Too much fuel over a long period of time can result in fuel getting past the rings and washing the oil off the cylinder walls which can cause the cylinder to wear prematurely.

The probably is more of an issue when a 165 tstat is used instead of the stock 195.

Now if the chip is reprogrammed for the same tstat temp then there should be no issue of premature engine wear.

I looked at Jet's 6-pack chip many years ago and my issue was the requirement of premium fuel. IMHO, you would be better looking at www.pcmforless.com or www.tbichips.com where you can get a custom tune based on your mods and what type of fuel you want to run.

Re: 1994 gmc sierra question

I went to both of those sites and i can't seem to find anything on my truck.. Would it be easyer for me to just call up either business and just talk to them about it ?

And, i was un sure if you said that with a 180' t stat that everything would be ok if the chip is set correctly or would it still give me problems?

Look here http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?...d=47&Itemid=40 and scroll down until you see "Custom Programming 1987 - 1995"

Once you pay, you get an order sheet to specify all of your requirements. This is where you specify the tstat temp you want.

Regarding your question about a 180 stat with the stock chip. I am not sure if can damage your truck or not. If you get a custom chip, I would switch to a 180 then to be on the safe side.
