2 Windstar Problems

1. Loud whining sound coming from one of the wheel areas once car has been driven for a while. Sound goes away when brake is applied. When stopped I
can feel a large amount of heat coming from wheel area and a slight smell.

2. Loud hydraulic sound when turning car to the left. Doesn't happen when
turning to the right.

Does anyone have a suspicion as to what the issues might be here? Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: 2 Windstar Problems

Hi,

the squealing wheel sure sounds like a dragging brake. If it is a front brake I would consider changing the caliper, and brake pads and bleeding/flushing the brake line thoroughly. I have seen where the brake line itself (rubber portion) colapsed internally blocking fluid in the line keeping the brake applied. If a rear brake (assuming drum) I might suspect the fluid line again, then perhaps consider a stuck wheel cylinder and/or faulty automatic adjuster hardware. If a rear is dragging you will likely have to back off the adjuster just to remove the drum (using screwdriver and adjusting tool through the small opening on the back side of the brake assembly).

For your squealing power steering take a look at the other threads regarding changing/flushing your power steering fluid.

Good luck
