Unhappy 97 town car will not start due to alarm

I have a 97 lincoln town car with what I beleive is the factory alarm system. It has a valet switch on the dashboard whichs arms and disarms the alarm. Th alarm is wired to the ignition so if it is tripped the car will not start. I must have set the alarm and when trying to push the valet switch it broke now the car will not start. Is there some way to know where the alarm is and if it is disconnected will the car start? If not could I purchase just the little valet button somewhere or is there a way to cut the valet switch and try to wire it somehow? Please help car is stuck. Thank you in advanve

That sounds like an aftermarket system, 1997 TC didn't have the system you describe, & there was no Valet button option.

The installer either cut the ignition switch wire to the starter, or to the PCM.

PS; If the button broke, a new button should fix the problem. In the meantime, you might try connecting the wires together behind that switch ?

Re: 97 town car will not start due to alarm

From what I have been able to research the alarm is a code alarm and the valet button is a 3 wire one so I tried cutting the button off and putting together the wires but could not figure out a combination that worked. There are 3 colored wires from the button green, blue and what looks like a little heavier guage orange. I just ordered a button online that looks like mine. Is there anything else I can do? I really don't need the alarm so is there a way to disable the alarm and have the car run? I thought if I got to the main box under the dash that might work. any other suggestions? And thanks so far

As said that is not a OEM factory job.
Factory alarm flashes lights and horn and usually no starter.
Look under the dash and find the aftermarket remote start/alarm box hanging under there.
Usually looks like a rats nest of wiring.
Remove it and drop it into the trash can and then put the wiring back to Factory OEM.

O.k. so i found the brain of the alarm and you guys are right it is a ford security system. But I tried to disconnect it from the wiring harness and when I reconnect the battery it still will not let me start the car and the alarm button on the dash board is still flashing.

Is it a plugin wiring job or a rats nest of wires spliced in job?
Do you have remote door lock button?
Have you tryed locking and unlocking door with the key or remote?

You will have to rewire the wires back the way they were to start with.

Check here for wiring on it,

If that does not help a good repair manual with wiring diagram may be needed.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: 97 town car will not start due to alarm

Do you happen to have the Code Alarm model number?

Their web page has all the Owners Manuals, and the Installation instructions on some as well.

Nice place to start looking at the Valet Switch installation if you have the Model #.

Here's some of those Installation Instructions:
Here's my favorite instruction from the CA130;
+ Locate the vehicle starter wire
+ Cut the wire in half
+ Verify it's cut, "no starter"

pho.. if this system is a ford factory unit find the brain under the black panel under the steering wheel. it will say ford theft alarm or something like that . the fist plug on the left should have 2 red wires these are the ignition wires. pull this plug, cut and connect these two wires to regain factory current to the starter and this will disable the starter kill...use a 2 sided connecter/cap to connect the wires. There are 2 large fuses in a small black box near the red wires you just cut ...pull those now..they are the power fuses for the alarm...next unplug the remaining plugs in the black alarm brain and replace panel.. I just pulled one out of a 94 yesterday with success!!!! let me know if you need further assistance [email protected]

Re: 97 town car will not start due to alarm

Disarming a Triggered System

Note:
Within three minutes after the system has been triggered, the horns (13832) and exterior lamps will shut off automatically. The system will then reset to an armed state and will trigger again if another intrusion occurs. However, the vehicle's starter circuit will remain disabled until the system is disarmed.

Any of the following procedures will disarm a triggered system:

l unlocking driver or passenger doors with the key

l unlocking driver door using the keyless entry keypad code

l unlocking driver door by pressing UNLOCK button of keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601)

Disarming an Untriggered System

Any of the following actions will disarm an untriggered system:

l Unlock driver or passenger door with the key.

l Unlock driver door using the keyless entry keypad.

l Unlock driver door by pressing UNLOCK button of keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601). If remaining in the vehicle, turn ignition switch to RUN or ACC.
