Question auotmatic to stick conversion

whats up guys,
I have a 96 max which is an automatic. I have the entire set up for a 99 stick to convert my auto. to a 5-speed. The question i have for you guys is can I just take a 96 stick ecu and use it for the conversion. Or do I have to get it remapped by jim wolf? They said they can do it but it does not make sense why I would have to remap a stick ecu if they said I can remap an automatic ecu and it would work. The only problem I would face is a check engine light if i took my ecu. HELP, SOMEBODY. If somebody did this conv. or plans to, or knows what to do please tell me. thanks

You can use the 5spd ECU, you don't have to get anything remapped. I have a 97 with the conversion, and I haven't changed ECU's yet. I just have a check engine light, but the car drives fine, and the only codes are for the auto tranny. Good luck.

Questions?
did you use your auto ecu and have a check engine light?

I was wondering whether I could use a 96 stick ecu and have no problem with the check engine light and the way the car runs?

I'm sorry if I did not understand, yo my name is fred hope to hear from ya soon.

I kept my stock auto ECU for now. Ive found some cheap 5spd ECU's, but I need to sell my auto tranny first. The car runs fine, it just has a check engine light. Ive pulled the codes a few times now, just to be sure, and they were all related to the auto tranny...
