oil burning

I have a 98 chevy prizm its got 200000 miles on it. Im burning alot of oil im mean alot. I was told that i need to run a ac delco oil filter. Then i went to get the filter talked to the guy at the auto zone he said no its more than likely your oil pump. I have no idea has any prizm owner had this problem if so how did you fix it.

I am burning oil as well. At least a quart a week. Thinking of getting rid of this car. CE Light is always on as well, struts going bad...

Re: oil burning

It's not likely to be the pump. The pump is in the engine. If the pump were faulty the oil would leaking from the pump back into the crankcase. Right?

There's a reason they work at autozone...haha. I call them counter-mechanics.

Anyhow. How much are you burning. Need Info! make sure your not leaking oil. most likely stuck rings or valves.. Try pouring some Marvel Mystery Oil in a cold engine [all the cylenders] and letting it set all night. Nest day crank the engine with the plugs still out to remove the excess oil. then reinsert the plugs. See if that will unstick the rings.

Good luck...let be know if this helps..

Re: oil burning

I have a 98 prism that was using about a quart every week or two found out that the EGR valve was clogged so I cleaned it slowed it way down half a quart a month. Check that first and clean it if that does not help use an oil stabilizer I recommend Lucas
