Vents

1997 Outback

When I turn the heat on, the only the front dash vents blow air, regardless of what I selected. The windshield defog and floor vents don't work at all. Could the entire climate control module be bad?

Re: Vents

Is the switch mechanical? Which means, would it "thunk" into the different positions? And has it stopped doing that now?

Re: Vents

Nope, it's not the entire module. There's a resistor block which controls the fans under the passenger side of the dash which has gone bad, if you pull it out you should be able to see the problem.

The block looks like an about 1" square of perforated metal with various wires and insulator inside and is a plug in - wish I had a photo to show you.

Are you talking about the blower motor resistor?
