Re: 98 chevy help

Reprogramming could be needed depending on the cam and headwork but they should have told you that when you bought the engine.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Low pressure can make you run lean.

Remember that a miss can be a fuel injector not firing OR the spark not firing. Double check all of the fuel injector connectors. It is easy to cross one up.

There is no way to set the timing on the Vortec. You need to set the cam retard and that can only be done with a scanner.

Re: 98 chevy help

if u take care of the timing issue and still have a mis, run a bottle of seafoam through ur system and it should clear it all up. i had a similar problem n replaced damn near everything and still had a mis n that cleared it right up. u could also have a mis if ur cam position sensor is goin out.

Re: 98 chevy help

Why replace a sensor when you are getting a misfire on 7?

Were you able to get the cam retard set with a scan tool?

If it is easy to get at the injectors, you could swap 7 and 5 to see if the problem follows the injector. If the problem stays with 7, then you should verify the injector is firing with a injector test light.

You should also check to be sure the plug wire for 7 is in good shape. Try routing 7 so that it is not parallel to 5.

YES!! you still need a scan tool (for the 3rd or 4th time) & NO!! you can't time it without it. The CMP (cam postion sensor) is in the dist which runs off the cam. P1345 is most likley caused by the dist being 1 or 2 teeth off in either direction of were it should be. Once it's in the right position you WILL need a scan tool that you can put in the "cam retard" or "cam offset" mode to set the timing at 0 +/- 1 or 2 degs.
