02 Envoy compressor noise & changing
My 02 envoy makes a ticking noise when the a/c is on. If you turn off the a/c the noise goes away. I figure the compressor is heading south. How hard is the compressor to change? How do you snake it out of the engine compartment? My envoy was wrecked pretty good when I bought it and I am figuring the compressor took a hit during the wreck. I also have a whining noise when the vehicle is running. I replaced the alternator and PS pump already, so I wonder if the a/c compressor is whining. Otherwise the PS fluid is dirty and I wonder if that is the whining?

Re: 02 Envoy compressor noise & changing
Tough from this desk to comment on noises, you need someone familiar with this to listen on site, if the ac comp is bad the system must be flushed at minimum to remove debris, this type of work may not be for a dyer without the proper ac equipment and tools.

Re: 02 Envoy compressor noise & changing
Does the ticking only occur in short bursts when the a/c compressor engages? If it's constant, it *could* be a blend door actuator under the dash.

Re: 02 Envoy compressor noise & changing
I'm sure it is an accessory noise. If I remove the belt and let it run the noise is gone. Regarding replacement of the a/c compressor I can flush and recharge the a/c. My main concern is how do you actually get the compressor out of the engine compartment. I'm thinking you will have to pull the radiator to get it out.

Re: 02 Envoy compressor noise & changing
I just changed my compressor last night. according to the manual you need to remove the alternator, and belt tensionor and pull out from the top. well I took the compressor out from the bottom. it was much easier then the top.
Once you remove the plastic cover on the bottom of the engine and unbolt the compressor you can remove the compressor from the bottom, it took me a little time but it came out. Pay attention to how you take it out (I did not and it took sometime to put the new one back in) I also removed the left front tire and was able to remove 3 of the 4 bolts holding the compressor on the 4th is a b__tch Hope this helps!! |
