reseting codes

Does anyone know how to reset the codes on a 2003 Impala? I had the work needed/parts replaced by my fiance and I can't get my car to pass smog because the check engine light/codes still come up. We tried disconnecting the battery but that didn't work. Help!!

Re: reseting codes

Welcome to AF. Most chain auto parts stores (Advance, Auto-Zone, CSK), will check for codes and reset the CEL for free. The light will reset itself after a few drive cycles as long as there are no other problems tripping it.

Re: reseting codes

nice sig line Rich...lol

could be up to 40-60 full drive cycles(cold starts and all) before the light goes out. Also, you need to drive the car a bit before you take it back for the smog test. When you clear codes, you also clear all the I/M monitors to not ready status. it takes them time(driving) to reset. In texas, if more than 2 are reading not ready, then it fails.
