93 dodge dakota makes clunking noise when in reverse

when I back up I hear a clunking or thuding type of noise. I had the uv joint looked at and they said it was fine, but something is making that noise they're just not sure what. It doesn't make that noise all the time, only about 80% of the time. Also the gas gauge doesn't work.

Check for bad mounts. The fuel gauge not working is probably the sender in the tank.
