Cross Eyed WRX vs My Bug Eyed WRX

So I finally got to test my car against a stock version. Well, not completely as the Cross eyed WRXs have AVCS (Subaru variable valve timing) and more HP and Tq than the bug eyed ones.

I was at a red light with him - before the light I think I pissed him off cos I blew past him as my lane was ending and there was no time to get behind him. So I didn't know he wanted to race and I had no intention of racing him.

No surprise, he pulled about 2.5 cars on me off the line. (i consider 1 car as my front to his tail)

I still didn't know he wanted to race and I din't wanna do a ricer fly by so I floored in first and than kept at about 5/6 throttle in 2nd until I pulled to the end of 2nd.

---------> Me
------------> Him

At this time I had regained about half to 1 car on him so he was only about half to 1 car ahead of me now.

At this point no one was gaining so I figured he must be going WOT to be able to do that and was in fact racing.

Once I realised he was in fact racing, I had just shifted to 3rd so I floored it in 3rd and pulled on him so hard. Perhaps he had stopped racing, but my gut feeling is no.

By the end of 3rd I had pulled at least 1 car on him.

I was really happy with that cos I remember when my car was stock, 3rd gear is where it would start to fall flat on its face.

Anyways, I was just about to shift into 4th when I saw a bright white flash in the corner of my eye...instinctively I hit the breaks cos I thought it was a speed camera. He didn't fly by me and must have done the same so I guess it confirmed I wasn't hallucinating lol.

Anyways, summary is I pulled hard on a cross eyed WRX and we both stopped racing after I started pulling on him cos we both got spooked by a white flash.

Hopefully it was just some random light flash...most likely it was cos I go down that road a lot and there isn't supposed to be a speed camera unless they just put one in.

Oh and in case pppl don't understand what I mean:

IMO the "pig nose" is ugly. i think the "classic" one looks best.

Yeah that new one is ugly as sin. I've always liked the cross-eyed one the best, the classic looks good too.

I actually like the pig nosed Impreza the best. It had to grow on me but I think it really looks nice.

Incorrect. 04-05 Peanut eye WRXs have THE EXACT SAME MOTOR as bugeyes with a few tweaks to the ECU for better emissions and usually dyno at about 5hp less than 02-03. The 06+ have the 2.5L with AVCS.

What mods have you done? Can I guess? BOV, Intake, and TBE? The first two doing more harm than good?

First of all, I don't appreciate your tone. You're being a prick. Here at AF, we like to toast marshmallows and sing kumbaya. But welcome, nonetheless.

As to the engines, I have heard too much from many different sources to really be bothered trying to figure out which is what. I had always believed what yo believe now - that all WRX 2L engines are exactly the same with minor tweaks. However, more recently, I have been reading that the MY05 and MY04 has different valve springs and AVCS and this and that. I honestly am unsure anymore.

I guess when I wrote that post I was pretty sure the MY04 and MY05 had AVCS. But now, I'm leaning towards them not.

I guess I thought it was possible cos we've always had the STi's and the newer 2L STi's had AVCS (from MY02 onwards I think), so I thought it was possible that the newer WRXs (MY03 onwards (not USDM MY03)) has AVCS as well.

But honestly, I am unsure now, and I don't think you can compare what the USDM WRXs have/don't have to what we have in Australia to prove anything. Cos as we all know, they are different e.g. even the model i.e. Aust MY02 = USDM MY03. This means we have 3 generations of cross eyed WRXs (MY03, 04, 05) whilst USDM only has 2 (MY04, 05). I think the MY06 model, Subaru released globally as the same thing. i.e. the first 2.5L WRX.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, the Jap spec WRX has had AVCS and IHI VF30 turbos since 2001. So trying to compare japanese cars across markets is stupid, cos none of them are the same.

As with the power. I have never heard of a bug-eyed WRX putting out more power at the wheels than either a cross-eyed one or a classic one.

The bug-eyed WRXs have an extra cat in the uppipe which is not present on any other WRX. So for a cross eyed WRX, which is tuned to put out 8kW power and 8Nm torque more than a bug-eyed WRX and has no restricted cat in the uppipe, I find it almost impossible to believe that it can put out LESS whp than a bug-eyed WRX.

Also, I don't even know what you're trying to prove by pointing out 5whp difference....you could have farted too close to the intercooler and caused that.

As with my mods. No I don't have a BOV, I have the factory by-pass valve. I know it is detrimental as it makes the engine run rich.

As with the intake. i have not hear any evidence of either a short ram or cold-air intake being bad for a WRX. Sure there is lots of evidence pointing out they are unnecessary as they don't cause power gain. I have a CAI as my stock intake was damaged by some monkey at Subaru putting it back together improperly after a service. I was told by the workshop where I got it done that with my mods and ECU tune, the CAI will not increase power but will reduce turbo-lag by a bit. Hence, why not.

Yes I have a TBE (3") - no arguments there as I think all would agree it is almost essential on a turboed car.

If you must know, I also have a catless uppipe, high flow cats everywhere else, 500hp fuel pump and ECU tuning.

I know you are trying to imply that my car is rice. But if that is your opinion, that is fine with me as I do not consider it to be.

the essay is actually pretty good, so id advise reading it. i wouldnt take it personally from this 'new' guy, as he's made 6 posts in 3 years....
seems like he only comes on here to become an a$s or so....
