Alternator Bolt Broke HELP
90 crx si with the stock D16. I was able to get the top two bolts out, but the bottom one snapped. The nut on the tranny side came off, but when I tried to back out the bolt the head snapped off. The body (from just below the head to the end) is stuck in the alternator and I can't get it off. I tried to get at the bracket bolts to just remove the whole thing, but I can't get at the one behind the alternator.
Anyone have any idea what to do? |

Re: Alternator Bolt Broke HELP
you need what's know as a stud extractor. you drill a small hole into the broken bolt, insert the extractor and turn, it removed the broken stud easily.

Re: Alternator Bolt Broke HELP
That or a left-threaded drill bit. As it digs in, it will pull the bolt out.

Re: Alternator Bolt Broke HELP
The real question is, why were you doing all that to replace the alternater belt?

I'll try the extractor tonight and post how it worked. Does anyone know how to get drilled hole in the center and avoid the drill bit "walking"? Everytime I use it I get really close to the edges. |
