I pretty much sucked Saturday night

Yeah, pretty awful. I believe Saturday was the absolute worse I have ever done in my going on 3 years of driving a race car. It was awful!

For starters, the car just to put it lightly, ran like pure SHIT. Its little ass will most definetly be getting worked on before I take it out and blow $100 again, lol.

Just plain awful.

First run off the trailer: a mind blowing 7.24 @ 96 mph . I was like WTF? And then to make it worse, my reaction time was .075 . I was like WTF again? LOL. In my defense, the sun was just beaming down on the tree plus the car spun.

So here I am, off over 4 tenths of a second and 4 mph. Oh well. Next run: 7.13 @ 97 mph. .059 reaction time. Now I'm thinking, well thats just really consistant, lol. And that was the last round of time trials too. So the next round was elminations. So I adjust my delay box accordingly, and just guess and dial the car a 7.11. I cut a -.003 redlight and the car runs 7.00 @ 98 mph.

Oh well. I buy back in. Dial the car 6.96, add a bunch of numbers to my delay box (like .020 seconds) and what do I do??? -.022 reaction time ! Should have been an .017 to the good! Oh well. Car finally started settling down though. 6.965 @ 99 mph. So I was dead on my dial.

So I buy back in, lol. Dial the car a 6.94 and had .020 more to my delay box. Now this shouldn't have even put me even. In other words, if everything would happen the same, I should have cut a -.002 light. What do I do? .120!!!!! That is HORRIBLE! By far the worse light I've ever cut during eliminations without something changing in the run (like crossing-over on somebody and for whatever reason they break or mess up when they stage and their tree doesn't come on, just your side). Car ran a 6.941 @ 98 mph though. Dead on with a 1. Oh well!

Here's my disclaimer. The track was having trouble with their computer system all day. Several times they had to reset the tree. And just 2 runs before my AWFUL .120 light, they had the tree to screw up and they wound up having to re-run two cars. So I dont know. Maybe it was just me. I was aggrevated to say the least with the car. But I honestly dont think I was that radical on the lights!

And as for the car. Well, we're thinking its the way the carb. is set up. It always picks up atleast a tenth after the first run off the trailer. Then, about 2-3 hundred every run there after. So I'm going to put the carb off my 383 on the 355, change the oil, set the valves, and probably back the timing up to 38-degrees before I run it again. I hope to get one more race in this season anyways, maybe 2.

Might slow it down by doing that, I dont know, but after last night, I just dont care. A carbuerator is about the only thing that would cause one to run that erratic. I know the Vega would always pick up 3 or 4 numbers from the first run, but it would settle down much faster then this one. So I'm hoping by usign that carb. it will settle this car down. We shall see, but at the very least, the oil is getting changed and the carbuerator is getting changed before it ever sees a race track again, lol.

Re: I pretty much sucked Saturday night

The worse you run the better I feel about my car.

Sucks to have a bad outting though.
On a lighter note...if I didn't have some plans with my parents this afternoon I would have entered an actual race today.

Excuses excuses. I say you're just a chicken shit! LOLOL.

Seriously though, go for it man if you get the chance. Its a lot of fun. I mean as pissed off and aggrevated as I was last night, it still beats setting at the house, lol. And its still a lot of fun. Its a challenge. You always try to improve yourself.

And as for the car, it wound up being a solid tenth off last night, and a solid 1 mph. It was VERY cold last night too. Like, in the 30s. And the air was noticeably thinner. So we're about positive that its the carbuerator. The air/fuel ratio is probably set up for a certain type of weather (car came from Indiana) and its probably jetted for a certain weather.

Ah sucks man. Sorry to hear it, a bad night or loss is always discouraging. But keep it in perspective...at least the car came home in one piece. Good luck next time.

Yes! That's the main thing. No breakdowns, no wrecks. And like I said, it about has to be the way the carb. is set up and I've got another carb. thats settin on that 383 right now that runs perfect, or atleast consistant.

Limited Late Models are pretty strict on what all you can do to the engines right?

Anyways, where do you race? There's a 3/8's dirt track right beside the drag strip (which was only 330 feet) that I used to run at all the time.
