Question about idle speed

I have a 1996 S10 w/ 2.2 4cyl. manual trans. I have just installed a tach and need to know the idle speed for this engine. The tach is giving me a very high reading, from 1500 to 1000 depending on which setting I have it on. (2 cyl, 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl) I have installed an adapter because it is the DIS ignition system. I have looked everywhere and I can't find the idle speed anywhere online. If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.

Re: Question about idle speed

My 99' LS reads about 700 RPM. It was lower when I didn't have a Cold Air Intake kit installed.

Re: Question about idle speed

That's what the factory, in-dash "tachometer" shows. Data scans show about 740-745 RPM at temperature. That thing the factory put next to the speedometere is more a part of a trim package than an instrument. It almost kind of moves around relative to engine speed - Almost.

That aside, it does start at about 1150 (actual, not indicated) until the CTS reads over 104°F, where it begins to drop slowly.

Re: Question about idle speed

You are right. Not overly accurate.

750rpms sounds perfect.

Re: Question about idle speed

I still think that is a little high, but ytou might have the same thing as Blue Bowtie has that it is 750rpms, but showing 900 on the tach.
