wireless key

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find the network keys stored on a computer. I took my computer over to my girlfriends house to help her with some homework but she didnt know her network key and her roommates ex set it up sooooo if anyone could help that would be great.

Re: wireless key

network keys are like passwords, they are masked with astericks so you can't copy them.

The only thing you can do is hold in the reset button for 10 seconds and reset the router to eliminate the security and reset the key and your PC's to one you chose. Or just leave it wide open.

Re: wireless key

It depends how the room mate set it up. Your best bet is to plug a PC directly into the router, run an IP config to get the default gateway.

Type the default gateway IP into a web browser to login the router, you can find the default username and password on the web. You should be able to find the wireless key in there.

If the room mate has changed the default admin password on the router, you will need to do a factory reset, as Eric suggests.

Speaking of defaults, Iv'e noticed that most users trying to set up security for the first time just use the example key from the user manual. If you have a manual from the wireless router the local telephone company uses you have a pretty good chance of getting in using that.

Why bother? WEP keys take 5-10 mins to crack if you know what you're doing.
