eletrical problem

i got a 90 civic dx and i am haveing a weird problem did a sohc zc swap and i have driven it with out any big probems for a month or so but i was out for a drive today and all of a suden my cd player kicks out my temp gauge goes as high as it can and the smoke starts pouring out from behind the gauge cluster. took the dash apart and found the conector behind the spedo fried on one side of it. got the car to start again after this happend cause this happend in the middle of the road and it wasent running right so i turned off the key but the motor kept running for a about 10-20 seconds after i took the key out. towed it home riped it apart found the fried wire conection so without the cluster in it started and ran fine but then i turned on the radio and the car cut out again. have no idea where to start possibly the main relay? i dont know any ideas? also aftert it cut out again it wouldnt start again and all the fuses are fine

Re: eletrical problem

If the connector fried there...START THERE! You obviously have a short, and if thats where it gets hot chances are thats it, could be somewhere else down the line and this point is just the path of least resistance, but it would be on that circuit. Your stereo, accesories and guages are on the same harness.

Re: eletrical problem

I love posts like this "my cars on fire, what do I do? check the air pressure in the tires?".

Re: eletrical problem

you could put gasoline on it when it's burning to help the fire along...
