Hello all,
Well I posted a message back in July about a knock sensor. Sad to say that was NOT the cause to my problem with my car. September 18th will be exactly 3 months that my car has been in the shop. That poor thing has been ripped apart and put back together and NO ONE can figure out WHY it dies and bogs out. She has her good days and bad. I wish for a miracle that someone somewhere would have a clue as to why this is happening. All the sensors have been checked and some replaced, including the knock sensor as well as the cam (that was originally told was bad by Nissan). Nothing, nothing, nothing!!!! If there is a miracle worker out there that has possibly came across the same situation, PLEASE OH PLEASE let me know. I would normally write this off and get a new car but I just paid her off in Feb 02. Thank you, Sad :0( Kathy (with the "Mystery Maxima") |

That really sucks, sad to hear it. Have they tried an ecu swap. maybe the programing in the ecu is haywire and is changing setting on a random basis? that is the only thing I can offer. Good luck though.
![]() I am assuming they have cleaned out the fuel system and checked the ignition system already. If not that could be another problem.

Well if the ecu is the computer system....yeppers. It has been replaced with a refurbished one (since Nissan would charge $700 and would not able to return it regardless if that solved the problem or not). The fuel system has been checked along with replacing the fuel filter. You name it they have checked it. I know it's going to be something REALLY stupid. And of course nothing in the history of Maximas has ever been recorded as having this happen before. So this is what it feels like to be that 1% chance of "this" happening to a car or me. I think the most aggrevating part of all this is not having an answer. AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
Well thanks anyways. Kathy |

I think your problem is definately fuel related. Have you replaced the fuel pump? There's a screen in the gas tank that may be getting plugged with debri in your tank, causing brief periods of low fuel pressure. Have your pump checked/replaced and look inside your fuel tank for debri. I remember a story about a guy who dumped a can of fuel injector cleaner in his tank. The protective cap thingy went into his tank by accident. Well the pump sucked this thing up every now and then and his car would stall. Took him 2 years to figure it out. You can get into your gas tank without removing it. The access cover is under the back seat. Pull the fuel pump assy. out of the tank through that access cover and get a very strong flash light and look into your gas tank. It should be nice and clean. Check the screen on the fuel pump and replace the o-rings for the fuel lines so you maintain pressure.
I have a feeling thats where your problem is. Another thing I would just replace is your fuel pressure regulator.

Hello,
You had asked something about the cam "position" sensors? There is 2 ?????? I was told only one (cam sensor)......HHMMMMMMM very interesting. I have to get a checklist from my mechanic and find out all the areas that have been checked. Oh how I wish this can all get figured out!!!!!! Thanks I will let you know. Kathy |

my friend had the same problem with a 1986 3.8 L6 turbo buick grand national. he bought it in mint condition(body wise) but the thing wouldn't stay running. after a lot of tinkering he found out that his catalytic convertor was clogged. he just fed a 3" pipe throught the cat and bypassed it all-together and it ran well after that.

VERY INTERESTING!!!! Believe me I will take any and all possibilities there are!!! I am calling my mechanic tomorrow morning and getting a checklist of what has been looked at. I've got three suggestions so far just off this post. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! As soon I get the list I will post it here and see what all of you think. Wish me luck!!!
Thanks again, Kathy |
