Chrysler 4g63 and Mitsu 4g63 WTF???

I just talked to a motor shop that i was going to buy a crate motor from for my 92 awd laser and they told me they need the code on the front of my motor in order to sell me a 4g63 to make sure its not a Chrysler 4g63 because they said the Mitsubishi 4g63 has a different shaped block and they're not interchangeable. I was like wtf are you talking about and he came up with a bunch of weird info ive never heard of.

Then he tried to sell me a 7-bolt 2g 4g63 and told me i only need to put a 6-bolt flywheel on and it will bolt right up and i would have no problems with it and i wouldnt have to change anything else.
I was like WTF this isnt making sense to me.

Have you guys heard of these 2 different types of 4g63? He was talking about turbo motors not na motors, and he said that he had just put in a Chrysler 4g63 turbo a day or 2 earlier so he knew for sure.

Re: Chrysler 4g63 and Mitsu 4g63 WTF???

there is no difference between the 2 they just had a union back then like if you look at the talon it has chrysler emblems on it. that guy is retarded i would deffinetly go somewhere else a 6bolt and 7 bolt are completely different you cant just throw a 7 bolt in a 6bolt and vice versa. one has a 7 bolt flywheel and the other a 6 bolt and they have a lot of differences

4g63 blocks all look the same even the non turbo 2.0 from the early eclipses and talons look the same

Yeah, some of those non-DSM guys dont always know what they are talking about. The 4g63 is a Mitsubishi engine, there shouldnt be any difference. 6 bolt and 7 bolt engines are not a direct swap, there is a bit of difference in there and I have never heard of a "Mitsu 4g63" and a "Chrysler 4g63" either should be ok.

Re: Chrysler 4g63 and Mitsu 4g63 WTF???

What year is your Laser? 89-92.5 will NEED a 6 bolt motor and 92.5-94 will NEED a 7 bolt. The only way to swap the two would be if you rewired the wiring harness for reading either the cam angle sensor or the crank angle sensor. Another difference would be the motor mounts/timing belt cover. Between a 1g 7 bolt and a 2g 7 bolt, they are completely different. A 1g 6 and 7 bolt rear motor mount comes off the motor, whereas the 2g 7 bolt rear motor mount comes off the tranny. The timing belt cover on the driver side motor mount cannot be used correctly when people put 1g motors into a 2g. I haven't really seen anybody put a 2g motor into a 1g either, but we can safely assume the timing belt cover would also become an issue there as well...

Bottom line, the shop doesn't know anything about these cars and you should take it somewhere else.

Also for future posts. Please use our subforums as they make the eclipse/talon/laser section much more organized. Thank you.

Well how about a little more detail on your vehicle so we can know what you would need to do exactly. Year, model, plans, etc.

Re: Chrysler 4g63 and Mitsu 4g63 WTF???

Haha awesome thanks. I read the whole thing, but how much of that will apply to putting the 6-bolt into a 1gb instead of a 6-bolt into a 2g?

oh yeah and i got the numbers off the plate on the front of my engine behind where the o2 sensor is, it says 4g63 in the first line and JM7681 underneath of that, someone said that would tell me if its a 7 or 6 bolt but i haven't been able to find out what it means.
