Z31 300zx Turbo vs 89-92 Supra Turbo
As far as 1/4 mile performance i was wondering what one you would go with. Ive searched tons of forums and i haven't found any comparisons of these cars yet. Im starting to like them more and more though since there extreme sleepers. they look like old 80s Japanese cars that would carry a na 4-cyl but instead they have turbo 6-cyl that can push over 400hp on the stock turbo (ive been told the supra can at least).
I havnt really found tons of info on these cars but it seems that with minor bolt-ons the supra is capable of 400+hp like i said and can run mid 12s without any problems. Im not sure about the 300zx though. all i know is that there seems to be a lot more fast supra than 300zx. Ive had my eyes on these cars for a long time but ive never put any time into really researching them for some reason. There like the Buick GN to me there like badass cars that i dont know anything about. Anyways i was wondering your openions on these cars. Thanks |

Remember nothing is free. Sure they can do what you said but its not as simple as "turning up the boost". There is going to be alot of other parts and problems that will come along with it. I wouldn't say though that 400hp is out of the realm of reason though. I would think that either of these cars at 400 would be cool.

Re: Z31 300zx Turbo vs 89-92 Supra Turbo
Don't get me wrong- I'm a Z car kind of guy (up until very recently I owned a Z32), but I have to hand this one to the Supra. My dad used to own a 91, and later my brother bought it from him. The head gasket went bad on it, so we used the opportunity make some upgrades while we were at it. We had the turbo rebuilt and modified by majestic turbo of Dallas, TX (are they still in business?), the head ported polished and shaved (yes, we were young, stupid, and realized that shaving the head was really a no-no), and put a ecu upgrade on it. Once we got it back together, the car was pretty damn wicked. I've got a WRX now (stock), and it wouldn't have touched that car.
You'll notice that the above mods cost some money (almost 2 grand, to be exact), and I'm not really sure what nothing more than BPUs would have done for the car. I do know that after we made the modifications, the Supra ran trouble free for three years until my brother traded in on a badly needed truck. The Z would be good, but it's just hard to top Toyota's infamous in-line 6, whether it be the version in the MkIII or the MkIV. On the downside, both the Z and the Supra were notoriously heavy boulevard cruisers, and you may as well budget on replacing the Supra's head gasket (be sure to use a metal replacement). Even so, I miss that Supra. If I ever find a well taken care of 91 or so model, I might buy it. It is getting harder and harder to find nice ones, though.

Re: Z31 300zx Turbo vs 89-92 Supra Turbo
yeah everyone seems to like the supra a lot more. it seems the z31 goes for a lot cheaper though.
a friend got one a month ago for $800 and after a few mods hes running low 13's on pump gas |
