Squeaky Steering Wheel

I just noticed today taht when I was pulling into my garage, when I turned the wheel, there was a slight squeak sound coming from my front tires, or somewhere around there. It wasn't the tires, but it came everytime I turned the wheel. Could this just be aging metal? or is there some sort of fluid that is associated with this that I should have checked?

Re: Squeaky Steering Wheel

Is it possible you're just hearing the squeel of the tires on the garage floor? Or maybe you're hearing the power steering pump when you turn the wheel. The garage allows you to hear EVERY noise your car makes. Honestly, that's how I do a self diagnosis on my car...I pull into my garage and listen...

Re: Squeaky Steering Wheel

That could be it, thanks for the tip. As long as everything is working fine, I'm not going to worry.

Re: Squeaky Steering Wheel

Also the rubber boot around the bottom of the steering colum, by the pedals on the floor, squeeeks too.

Its just to keep out the elements.
Most N-body cars do this, you just cant always here it.

Did the noise happen when you turned the wheel all the way to one side.. As in turn the wheel until it couldn't turn anymore?

My wifes XTerra makes a noise as if the tires are sliding going just 1/2mph on any surface when turning the wheel..
