Plugs on block.
I have a 2000 with a 4.8L. Has anyone noticed the threaded, brass looking plugs on the sides of the block? They can be seen from under the truck. It looks like a big hex wrench could be used to remove them. I drained my coolant and only got 8 quarts out. I was wondering if these plugs could be removed to drain the block? Thanks.

Re: Plugs on block.
Yeah you can remove them and drain the rest. I did a thread awhile back trying to find the drain plugs on the block doing a coolant flush. According to the haynes manual your supposed to remove them and drain it. I just had a heck of a time finding them. Hope this helps.

Re: Plugs on block.
Thanks for the help, Rugerlab. Did you have any problems getting them back in the block after you took them out? I've heard that there may be issues since there are two different kinds of metals involved.

Re: Plugs on block.
I only actually removed the plugs once and they went right back in after the fluid was out. They are not leaking now and i didnt tear them up any putting them back in. Just be careful and i am sure you will be fine. I didn't even know about them the very first time i flushed the system so if it concerns you just leave them alone and run with what you have done already.
