Anyone have a gas tank/fuel pump for a '96 -'97??

Hello all,

I feel Klownicle's pain (see recent post of his). I just managed to fix a leaky hard to reach rusty power steering line, then DRIP DRIP DRIP the transmission line rusted out and I had to remove the driveshaft to fix it, then SPLASH, the fuel pump steel gooseneck let go as a result of rust. All within seconds of turning the key after the previous fix is done.
You would not beleive how rusted the pump retainer is. The f*%$#ing road sand and salt accumulate up there and have a banquet.
You cannot distinquish the phillips screws that hold it in place. Gone. The rim of the tank is now bendable in a horribly rusted way.
I have no money left to buy a NEW tank and pump assembly. Foolish me spent it all replacing all the drafty windows in the house.
So, has anyone pulled a tank or a pump to fit a '96-97? One they don't need that still has some life left in it?
I can pay for it and shipping it too. The local UPS driver likes coming down my dirt road cause he can take a break on the dock without anyone seeing him takin' it easy. It's the only steep grade private road around he will deliver to. So a big box with a tank in it is no problem. I'm interested in just a pump if you have it.
Got any leads??
Thanks,
Tom B.

Re: Anyone have a gas tank/fuel pump for a '96 -'97??

Update:

I just ordered a new pump assembly from Merlin at St. Charles Isuzu.
(Thanks for the lead Ryan!)

I had no luck finding a used pump....and I gotta get this rig on the road.
With a little luck and some knuckle skin, should be running again in a week.

Just a tip, if UPS knows its a gas tank they wont ship it. Against company policy to ship anything that has ever had gas in it. Including carburators.

I found that out when I bought a tank for my m'cycle. The place I bought it from screwed up and swapped the addy for my tank and another guy. Also there was still old gas in it. I took it back to UPS the same day and they wouldnt accept it after they smelled the gas, even though they had just delivered it to me a couple hours earlier. Said even if it was empty they couldnt ship it if they knew gas had been in it at some time. I managed to mask the smell and send it through the post office.

If you can manage to find a used tank from Colorado (we dont use salt on roads) or arizona, california, etc. you would probably be better off. No rust issues here.

Well Dave, you are probably right about the chances of me getting a used tank sent to me via UPS or anyone else for that matter.
I'm gonna try and salvage the tank. Just don't have another $400 for a new tank. The pump was $335 from Merlin. (Local dealer wanted $385 plus tax!)
Because of rust this Rodeo ain't worth $500 on a good day.
The frame and most of the undercarriage feels and looks like oven-burnt compressed Ritz crackers.

My wife's '99 Prizm is already beginning to change it's molecular iron structure.....
