Maintenance help?

I am a new owner of a '02 civic EX w/ 54k miles on it. I wondering if anyone could give me some info on things that might need to be maintained at this time besides like oil changes and air filter because it was kept up very well prior to me getting it. Things like fuel filter, timing belt......etc......

thank you.

Re: Maintenance help?

54K miles isn't a whole lot on a well maintained Honda, so there isn't much that needs to be done. I'm not sure how often a fuel filter needs to be changed, but it might not hurt. As far as the timing belt goes, I think that needs to be changed around 90K miles. That's when you should change the water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, etc. I believe the transmission fluid needs to be changed around 105K miles. So the "big" items aren't due quite yet on your car. Just keep the oil and filters changed like you said and you should be in good shape. Congrats on your "new" Civic.

Re: Maintenance help?

Maybe look at front brake pads condition ?

As far as the ATF (if it's an auto) IMO the mileage that Honda states for the first change is too high, I did a drain and refill at 25k and planning on continuing at that interval.

Inspect the drive belts.

Drive on....

Re: Maintenance help?

The transmission fluid is scheduled to change at 60k. It doesn't hurt to change it more frequently, although you probably won't have any transmission troubles with that car. Also at 60k the brake fluid should be changed.

The timing belt should be changed at 110k, with the spark plugs and water pump. Do a valve adjustment at that time also. Engine coolant also gets changed here.

Lastly, change the engine air filter and the dust and pollen filters every 30k and you're good to go. Don't worry about the fuel filter. There is no scheduled change for that item and they never go bad on that model civic.

Enjoy your car. You've made a great choice.
