Windstar woes

Specifically, no heat...in the front. 2000 Windstar 3.8

The coolant level is up to specs. I flushed the heater core and it gets very hot on the inlet and outlet hoses. I've checked the blend door for proper operation......and the rear heat will run you out. HTH can I not be getting any heat up front when everything mechanical is working as advertised? Is there more than one blend door?

TIA for any idea's as I'm fresh out

Re: Windstar woes

After driving the van for a while, carefully, put your hand on the heater hose, and see if it is toasty hot......like the upper radiator hose.
You should be able to get the small hose that is near where the upper radiator hose goes into the engine.
If it is HOT, then you have heat to the heater core....and the problem is the air flow in the passenger compartment.

There is a blend door, that is electrically operated, that determines the blend of air that flows over the hot heater, and the non-heated air.
There is a diverter door, that is vaccum operated, that determines where the air is going to go......defrost, floor vents, dash vents.
The default position for this if there is no vaccum is defrost.

Point is, the coolant ALWAYS flows through the heater core when the engine is running, so it will always be HOT, regardless of the temperature setting on the dash.
The temperature setting on the dash will determine the position of the blend door, which will control how much air passes over the HOT heater core.

Re: Windstar woes

Oh.....that makes sense then. The diverter door is the one down on the floor that I can see operating. Where is the motor for the blend door? Is that something I can access without ripping the dash out of the car?
