Plans for your rides this "offseason"

I hate this time of the year, lol. Racing season (organized or street) is winding down and that means our prides and joys get parked for a few months.

However, the bright side to it all is "there's always next year" AND all the new "things" we plan on doing to our cars/trucks. SO, what does everybody have planned out for this winter.

I've got a few ideas up my sleeve for the Nova. One of those includes an engine and tranny swap, although I'm not 100% sure if thats the best thing for me to do at this time, considering I'm still learning the car and the engine and tranny in it or perfectly fine, lol. Anyways, if I do make the swap, it will be to my 383 and Powerglide from Casper. That would certainly get my ass into the mid-low 6 second range in the 1/8th !

Who knows though. I may run the 355 and Turbo 400 untill one of two things happen: one or the other goes down AND/OR I just decide that its time to make the switch! I think I have to have a drive shaft made when I make the swap, so that'll be something to think about this off season.

Another idea I have is to check and make sure what size gear I have. We think its a 5.13, but we don't really know. My reasoning would be, if its a 4.88, then I'd want to put a 5.13 in it. Or, if it was something like a 5.38, then I'd want to put a 5.13 in it.

I've also got some cosmetic ideas to go with the performance. I think having ghost flames on the front end and hood would be just flat out awesome! And speaking of hoods, if I was to do something like that, then I'd get a 4" cowl hood to replace the 2" version on the car now. But anyways, I'm going to check around this winter and see just how much ghost flames would set me back! I'm such a ricer !

And while it isn't really something I'm doing to the car, it does directly involve the car. Sometime between now and next April, I'm buying a new trailer to pull the car with. Still dont know if it'll be an open or enclosed version, but oh well!

So thats my plans for the Nova this coming off season. Still got a couple more races to go though , and I plan on getting the most out of them! But when I do park it for the year, then that's what'll be going on with it.

Re: Plans for your rides this "offseason"

Well, I just got done rebuilding my bike motor. Now I need to assemble the enitre dirtbike back together lol. All that is left on the bike is the handle bars, frame, and a few cables. As for the 3000gt, I have done the 60k tune up so I just need to getting around to putting everything back on (belt cover, intake manifold, valve covers, oil pan....obviously nothing major) and then drop it in.

You race your dirt bike or is it just like something you do on the weekends?

Re: Plans for your rides this "offseason"

Well as of this year I did not do one single race. Mostly because of being busy but I never got around to it. However, I have raced motox many times. I am actually looking into starting endro racing to try something new. I do also take it on the enduro race trail in Castana, Iowa just for joyriding along with hitting the jeep trails too just to screw around a little.

Re: Plans for your rides this "offseason"

Here's what I'd like, not sure what will actually happen though:

Helmet
OEM Front lip
OEM rear spoiler
NRG Hood damper in chrome
Alpine 9857 + DCi

Eventually: cutout

Re: Plans for your rides this "offseason"

Hoping to add a nice set of revalved Bilsteins all the way around.
I have some V6 rear springs coming to add transfer at the track as well.
Probably changing the exhaust around as well.

I dont know what kind of helmet you'd be wanting (open face or full face-and I really hope you are actually talking about a helmet) but Jeg's has G-Force helmets on sale right now. I just got a new one yesturday. Black, open face, fire proof interior, SFI approved. It was like $114.99 or something.

Not bad at all IMO. And I actually prefer it to a Simpson helmet, which is atleast a $100 more expensive. I have a Simpson open face helmet now and I swear I dont think they hold up too good. Its about a year and a half old and the lining is coming loose from the back of the helmet. And the G-Force helmet I bought just looks like its put together better then the Simpson.

The Ultimate Shitbox is being torn apart, then getting:

soda-blasted inside and out
body work
paint
interior
suspension
brakes
... motor

I'm looking for a full-face helmet (eventually plan on getting a bike), must be Snell SA-2005 rated, and I'd like it to be red/black in color. Don't really want to spend more than $200. It will take a while to find one.

*EDIT* And the one I got is SA-2005/SFI 31.1A approved as well. But like I said, its an open face. Anyways, they all of the G-Force helmets on clearence for some reason or another, but like I said, the one I bought looks better then the Simpson I've been wearing.

You know...that might happen as well.
Get a good solid piece under there.

Although tonight I went from 4200 without issue and still bogged. I hate learning this car.

Where do you get them with graphics? Do you have to add them on yourself?

Re: Plans for your rides this "offseason"

Looks like they've sold out of everything but the XXL size (7 7/8-8).

You might try Summit Racing too, but they will probably a little higher unless they have the G-Force stuff on sale too. By Jegs having the G-Force helmets on sale like that, G-Force must be changing all of their helmets. They did this awhile back with seatbelts.

But yeah, you can have your own graphics put on them. That's what I do. I took my helmet today actually to Ameritint (my big sponsor now! lol, place that does my lettering) to get those cards in my sig put on the side of it along with my name across the top.

I'll post a picture of it tomorrow if she gets it done.

I told ya it would stand it! Since you now know this, I wouldn't fool with it untill it did break.

And I'll tell ya something else I would look into if I were you: an MSD Two-Step rev limiter, a.k.a. "a stutter box". That way you could select what RPM you wanted to leave on, floor board your car, and it wouldn't go past that. HOWEVER, the real reason I suggested that to ya is so you could get a high side chip to protect ya against over revving your engine, in case you did break something and/or missed a shift.

You may not could use an MSD Two Step (have to have an MSD Ignition), but there should be some kind of rev protection made for your car and I would HIGHLY suggest it.
